Vance Johnson is known for playing in three Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos in the 1980s.

Not as well known is his struggle with alcoholism, drug addiction and that he attempted suicide several times, according to vanceinspires.org.

Johnson, who is listed among the faculty of The Addictions Academy (theaddictionsacademy.com) and is a former western Colorado resident, will share his story at Spring Into Sobriety at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Colorado Mesa University Ballroom in the University Center at CMU. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 at the door.

Along with hearing Johnson as the keynote speaker, the evening event will include a comedic skit from local comedian Kevin Barclay and other local speakers talking about how addiction impacted their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

Community resources will be available and donations will be accepted.

This event is hosted by Amos Counseling and Amos Supportive Housing Association, 1131 N. 21st St.
