Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik stirred controversy on Thursday, June 2, saying he would shoot down those who not adhere to the Supreme Court order on the use of loudspeakers and make sure the directive is implemented in the state.

"If I'm given the authority, I will make sure the SC order is implemented in 24 hours...I will shoot down those who do not follow the SC order," Muthalik said, addressing a press conference in Hubli.

Hitting out at the state government for failing to implement the apex court order restricting the use of loudspeakers for azaan at 5 am in mosques, Muthalik said Sri Ram Sene will kickstart the second phase of protest on June 8.

"The Sri Ram Sene will stage protest in front of the offices of BJP legislators across the state on June 8. More than 10 organisations have extended their support," he said.

Slamming the government, Muthalik said the right-wing group has been fighting against the use of loudspeakers since a year and till now, there has been no implementation of the SC order.

"The government gave 15-day deadline. What is it doing now? So far, no one has sought approval for the use of mikes and the use of loudspeakers continue."

"If you (Karnataka government) cannot take any action, you should step down. I will shoot and implement the SC order in 24 hours," Muthalik said.

Earlier this month, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai directed officials to strictly implement the SC order on the use of loudspeakers, as Sri Ram Sene played Hindu devotional songs at temples in different parts of the state at 5 am to counter azaan at mosques.

Hindu devotional songs were played in Bengaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, Yadgir, Mandya and Kolar among other places at 5 am.

The state government had also issued a set of directions on the use of loudspeakers and to remove them if they were not authorised by the 'designated authority.'

"All users of loudspeakers or public address systems shall obtain written permission from the designated authority within 15 days. Those, who don't obtain, should voluntarily remove or should be removed by the designated authority," the state government had said.

Meanwhile, Muthalik on Thursday said that there is no hope left and threatened to campaign against the BJP government in the state.

"You won because of Hindutva. Why are you keeping your mouth shut?"

"Even though there is a SC order, the government is not doing anything. I won't keep quiet. I won't spare them. We will tell everyone not to elect them in the coming days," Muthalik added.
