Back in the early aughts — when he was still a twenty-something student attending USC’s music school — Justin Lubliner formed the marketing and PR firm The Darkroom. He went on to convert the company into a record label and consult with Republic Records’ A&R team, and eventually partnered with Interscope Records. His big breakthrough came in 2015, after he heard the song “Ocean Eyes” by Billie Eilish on SoundCloud and subsequently signed her to the Darkroom/Interscope team.

“When I met Justin, I felt like he was the only person out of everyone I met that year — and I met with a lot of people — that really saw something and believed it,” Eilish told Billboard in a 2020 article. “He didn’t have some plan that was to turn me into something different. He really just saw me for exactly who I was and wanted to support that. I think that’s rare.”

Fast-forward to today, and the “Bad Guy” singer has become the youngest artist in history to sweep the big four Grammy categories (album, song, record, best new artist); and she recently won a “Best Original Song” Oscar for the James Bond theme “No Time to Die,” from the film of the same name. Lubliner’s impressive client roster also includes DJ-producer Gryffin, alternative producer Oliver Malcolm and pop singer-songwriter Max Leone.

Now the young entrepreneur, 31, has parlayed his success — he’s been named to Billboard’s “40 Under 40: Rising Stars” and Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list of young power players — into the purchase of a Hollywood Hills home high above the Sunset Strip. The sellers were John Wise, cofounder of software firm InvestCloud, and his wife Kim, who offloaded the place to Lubliner for nearly $6.6 million.

Tucked away on a half-acre parcel — secured by walls and gates — the boxy two-story structure was built in the 1930s and has since been “newly upgraded with designer high-end finishes,” per the listing.
