At the NAB 2022 show, Neumann gave out a sneak peek of a new monitor speaker, the KH 150. The upcoming model is meant to fill the gap between the KH 120 and KH 310 speakers with a DSP-powered model. In this regard, the KH 150 is more of a 7-inch variant of the KH 80 than a larger KH 120.
Speaking of DSP, the KH 150 will come in DSP-only and DSP + AES-67 versions. The latter will be called KH 150 AES. At the trade show, Neumann had a complete Dolby Atmos immersive mixing setup established via AES-67. Neumann is taking slow, but deliberate steps in the monitoring niche. A new monitor speaker from the German household brand is always attention-commanding.
According to this source, Neumann may also have a KH 120II with DSP / DSP + AES-67 in the works. So that’s something to potentially watch out for in the times ahead. We don’t know anything else about that other than file names hinting at it inside a Neumann software installation package.
The KH 150 presentation video below was shared online by American retailer Dale Pro Audio. According to it, the speaker should be available sometime soon. No pricing or availability information is given out. It will be interesting to see how close Neumann can get to the KH 310’s pricing without the 3-way monitor becoming a more sensible choice for some than the 2-way KH 150. Still, the AES-67 connectivity is a big step towards future-proofing and conforming to Audio-over-IP environments.

We’ll be updating this article if and when new information appears prior to the product launch. It doesn’t look like Neumann is being especially privy with showcasing its latest studio monitor. I think sneak peek-ing a new product is a much better way of stirring up conversation and excitement than, say, a cryptic teaser on social media.
