Sonova Holdings AG only acquired its license to produce Sennheiser’s consumer products in May of this year and the new partnership has seen a steady flow of impressive products like the Momentum TW3 true wireless earbuds and the Momentum 4 noise canceling headphones. The partnership has now turned its attention to soundbars with the expansion of the Sennheiser AMBEO range.

Announced today, the new AMBEO Soundbar Plus and matching AMBEO Sub, offer more choices for those who want high-quality cinema sound in their home. The new AMBEO Soundbar Plus is the world’s first 7.1.4. standalone soundbar and its clever technology places the user at the center of the movie action. The Soundbar Plus is a more compact version of the larger, award-winning AMBEO Soundbar Max. And with the addition of the new AMBEO Sub there’s an even more breathtaking cinematic experience.

Although this new model is more compact than the original AMBEO, the PR folk claim it’s still driven by the same ground-breaking 3D sound developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer-Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, a world leader in audio research and development.

The SMBEO Soundbar Plus can be controlled using the Sennheiser Smart Connect App.

Thanks to a self-calibration mode, the soundbar reads a room’s acoustic properties and then positions seven virtual speakers around the listener, plus four more overhead. This arrangement enables the AMBEO Soundbar Plus to project sound from any corner of the room so that the user experiences the depth, impact and spaciousness of a movie theater in their own home, but without the fuss of extra cables or installing satellite speakers.

​The AMBEO Soundbar Plus is also good for audiophile-grade music and can automatically adapt its sound to the type of music being played. Customizable presets, an equalizer, and more are provided in the Sennheiser Smart Control App so the sound can be tweaked to perfection. There is also compatibility with Dolby ATMOS, DTS:X, 360 Reality Audio and MPEG-H Audio. Stereo and 5.1 content can also be upmixed to create 3D sound.

​The AMBEO|OS platform drives the soundbar and provides multiple music streaming services, such as Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect; plus it works with a Google Assistant-enabled device with Chromecast built-in. Furthermore, it provides seamless integration with Alexa Built-in and Apple Siri.

​The new AMBEO Sub matches the soundbar and delivers an immersive sound that Sennheiser claims will give you goosebumps. The intense bass goes as low as 27Hz and is powered by the AMBEO virtualization technology, providing natural and immersive sound. At the same time, an 8-inch high-end proprietary woofer, paired with a 350W Class-D amplifier, regurgitates a thundering bass.

​The sub's enclosure offers audiophile-grade bass with a design that matches its sound quality. The multi-sub array technology enables up to four subwoofers to be connected so the sound can be scaled up. Furthermore, each sub can be calibrated individually for optimal sound. A wireless connection provides a neat and clean installation without the need for messy cables.

​The AMBEO Sub’s advanced self-calibration and built-in far-field microphone enable the device to learn the acoustics of a room and adjust to every environment for a unique sound, while the Smart Control App makes the setting up as simple as plug and play.
