Tata Motors recently launched three new variants of the Harrier. The new variants are XZS, XZS Dual-Tone and XZS Dark Edition. They sit between the XZ and XZ+ variants. The price of the new variant starts at Rs. 20 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 21.60 lakhs ex-showroom. Here, we have a walkaround video of the Harrier’s XZS variant.
The video is uploaded on YouTube by TheCarsShow by Arsh Jolly. The host gives us a walkaround of the new variant. The new variant seems more value for money. From the exterior, there are no differences between the XZS variant and the top-end variant. The only difference between the variants is that the XZS come with 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that use 235/65 R17 tyres. On the top-end XZ+ variant you get 18-inch alloy wheels.

There are LED Daytime Running Lamps that double up as turn indicators and Xenon HID projector headlamps. The fog lamps do get a cornering function. The chrome strip on the side and boot and the running board that we see on the SUV is fitted as an accessory. The outside rearview mirrors are electrically adjustable and foldable. They also have LED turn indicators mounted on them.
You do get a parcel tray, boot lamp, spare wheel, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, shark-fin antenna and rear wiper with washer. There is also a panoramic sunroof on offer. Then the host climbs into the interior of the Harrier XZS. We can see a multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, part digital instrument cluster, push button to start/stop the engine, keyless entry etc.
The major change is that the XZS gets a more premium interior with an oak wood insert in the dashboard. There is also a silver insert too. There is brown leather upholstery with white stitching. The XZS variant does miss out on ventilated seats and iRA connected car technology. However, there is a 6-way electric adjustment. You do get a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is connected to four speakers, four tweeters, an amplifier and a subwoofer that are sourced from JBL.
Tata is also offering auto-dimming IRVM, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Terrain response system, Hill Descent Control, air purifier, cruise control, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 12v accessory socket, multiple USB ports and much more.
There are no changes mechanically. So, the Harrier still comes with a 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine that produces 170 Ps of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. You can get the Harrier with a 6-speed manual gearbox as we can see in the video or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Tata Motors is also working on a petrol engine for the Harrier and the Safari. It would be a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that produces around 160 Ps of max power. The torque output is not yet known but we can expect it to be around 250 Nm. We expect Tata Motors to introduce the new engine by the end of this year.
